Description
This Belgian wall tapestry, Bouquet Dore, represents an oil painting from Jan van Huysum (1682-1749). He was born in Amsterdam and was known as one of the most prominent Dutch flower painters.
Unlike most Dutch still life specialists, van Huysum insisted on working out details of his paintings from the close study of the world around him. He once wrote to a patron explaining that her painting would be delayed a year because, unable to obtain a real yellow rose, he could not finish the painting.
