The San Jose Sharks joined the NHL in 1991 and have become one of the leagues most successful franchises, on and off the ice. The team made history in 1994, compiling the largest single-season turnaround in NHL history, finishing with 82 points, a 58-point jump from the previous season. That year, they also earned their first Stanley Cup Playoff series victory when the No. 8 seeded Sharks defeated the Presidents Trophy-winning Detroit Red Wings, another NHL first. The Sharks are famous for their pre-game entrance to the ice when the players skate out through a 17-foot tall shark mouth with fog pouring out and eyes flashing red.
